More construction equipment showed up as the crew begins grading and packing down the soil.

The crew found some large rocks under the surface.

The size of the trench was pretty impressive.

The classrooms are ready for the first day of school!

Cheryl and Melissa will be in the office space inside building 2 (the Bumblebees classroom).

Dragonflies and Ladybugs are sharing the space in building 4.

The Eagles are in building 3 (formerly the Owls).

The Owls have moved to the former offices in building 4.

Looking forward to a great year of learning!

It doesn't look like that much rock, but we estimated it to be somewhere between 2000 and 2500 pounds.  Thanks again to the CMS parents for their great work today!

Thanks to CMS parents Clayton G. and Juergen L. (and a few of our own kids), we moved all the rocks from the construction site down to the secret garden.  These will be put to good use as a low wall, bench, or walkway that will help the kids remember the old building.

A little more video of the big machine from this morning.  I think the excavator is almost done, if it hasn't already finished its work today.

It was surprising to see how big the crawlspace was underneath the old building.  I spoke with Dennis, and he said that they will remove the giant chunks of concrete, and pull up the footings.  Before they start on the new building's slab, they will excavate down to more compacted soil or bedrock, then bring in a new base of soil and compact that down.  After they have a solid base to work on, then they'll pour the new building's slab.

All of the recyclables seem to be gone at this point, except for some rock we hope to reuse.
